VOCORD Avantpost VM4 is designed for creation of traffic video surveillance systems for all vehicle types: aircrafts, trains, water transport, cars, as well as municipal transport, including subway trains, specialized transport, and governmental transport. Traffic video surveillance systems are exposed to specific circumstances: increased vibration, big and rapid temperature changes, and unstable power supply, which require hardware compliant with specific requirements.

VOCORD Avantpost VM4 is lightweight and has a strong metal case equipped with a spring buffer for efficient vibration damping and shock insulation. This significantly increases lifetime of the hard disk and reliability of the data storage.

If the device is used in winter time (especially in northern countries), resistance to low temperatures is essential. Unlike stationary devices, which are constantly switched on and experience only slow temperature changes, VOCORD Avantpost VM4, when installed on a vehicle, can be repeatedly cooled down to the environment temperature and then, when switched on, quickly heat up to the operating temperature. Therefore, the device must be able both to power on quickly and to stand the maximum allowed temperature gradient. For these purposes, VOCORD Avantpost includes a heating system with the temperature control function.

VOCORD Avantpost VM4 is capable of reliable functioning in the power voltage range between 6V and 30V. The power supply unit of VOCORD Avantpost VM4 includes a circuit that protects from voltage spikes that are likely to occur, for example, when the engine is started.

A removable hard disk is an important feature of VOCORD Avantpost VM4. Unlike the hard disk used in models VB8 and VB4, it is placed within a cartridge which can be easily detached during the operation time. The SATAII interface allows connecting the hard disk to a standard PC and managing the archive data using the VOCORD software suite.

For integration with external devices, VOCORD Avantpost VM4 includes an extra USB interface. The first USB port on the front panel is for temporary connections to external devices (keyboards, removable hard disks, flash memory cards, and so on), while the second USB port, which is conveniently located at the back panel, is for connecting PC-compatible devices (such as WiFi-, WiMax-, or other wireless modems, network controllers, navigation systems, and more).
