Complex and Specialized VOCORD Systems

Today one can see a large number of video and audio systems on the market. These systems may sometimes have very similar declared capabilities and characteristics, which makes the selection process considerably more complicated. The main distinction of digital recording systems developed by our company is that PHOBOS actually is a professional system. What does this imply?

Based on these required features, it is our philosophy that a truly professional system can only be built on the basis of specialized hardware solutions. Standard video capture cards and audio boards do not provide necessary parameters because they have initially been designed for amateur use and for different applications.

High quality of recording in the PHOBOS system is achieved by applying the most up-to-date video and audio processing algorithms, as well as the use of high-quality onboard line interfaces.

While designing the system, Vocord paid special attention to minor details that can significantly affect system performance. For example, the way an analogue signal source is connected substantially influences recording quality. Similarily, transmission of a video signal via unscreened wires (for example, standard IDE braids, or the braids for a COM port) can result in interference from adjacent cameras and the presence of ripple marks on the image.

Our view is that high quality is a sum of well thought-out details.

High productivity using the PHOBOS system is obtained through hardware-implemented signal processing algorithms. Furthermore, specifications for a recording station do not exceed those for a modern standard office computer.

The declared characteristics of PHOBOS boards are achieved during normal operation in all modes. For instance, if the support of triplex mode (simultaneous recording, record playback, and monitoring) is declared while recording 16 channels of "live" video, then the declared recording rate also applies to the added tasks of simultaneous playback and monitoring. Many other systems can only support one mode at a time.

High scalability of the PHOBOS system is achieved due to client-server architecture; a specialised storage format of the multimedia data; streaming for transmission of multimedia data; and the use of an SQL database for the storage of attributes. Note that the configuration of the recording station remains unchanged even with a sharp increase in the number of recording channels.

Undoubtedly, all these high performance characteristics can only be achieved due to the application of the most advanced technologies at all levels of the system.
